The Annunciation 

Parmigianino made this rendition of The Annunciation, date unknown, with etching. The composition directs our eyes upwards, creating a sense of spiritual ascension. The dove, a symbol of the Holy Spirit, hovers above the Virgin Mary, rendered with a mix of awe and serenity. Parmigianino masterfully employs line and texture to convey depth and emotion. Notice the intricate network of lines that define Mary’s garments and the angel's wings, and the hatching technique used to create shadows, adding volume and dimension to the figures.
