This silver medal, created by Jan (I) Smeltzing in 1693, depicts King Louis XIV of France. The medal features a scene on one side with the king seated on a throne, being presented with a peace treaty by a female figure representing peace. The inscription “IN CREDIT BELGI,” which translates to “In the trust of the Belgians,” and “FACTIONIS LATET ERROR” “Behind the faction lies error” surround the image. The opposite side of the medal depicts a pillar with a figure of peace on top, surrounded by clouds and rays of light. This medal is a powerful symbol of the political climate of the time, highlighting the King's perceived deceitful peace proposals.
