Felix Gonzalez-Torres' "Untitled" (Public Opinion), created in 1991, is an installation piece consisting of a pile of individually wrapped candy. Visitors are invited to take a piece of candy, reflecting on the act of sharing and the ephemeral nature of the work. Gonzalez-Torres was known for his Minimalist and conceptual art that often addressed themes of loss, memory, and the AIDS epidemic. The work is often interpreted as a metaphor for the loss of life and the collective grief experienced during this period. The pile of candy gradually diminishes as visitors interact with it, highlighting the transience of both life and art.
