"De heilige Norbertus legt de gelofte van armoede af." (Saint Norbert Takes the Vow of Poverty) is an etching by Cornelis Galle I, created in 1622. The print depicts the moment when Saint Norbert, the founder of the Premonstratensian Order, renounces his worldly possessions, symbolized by the discarded clothing at his feet. The detailed depiction of the church setting and the figures within it is characteristic of Galle's style, and this etching is a fine example of the religious art that flourished in the Dutch Golden Age. The scene is set in a church with a crowd of onlookers. The artwork is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
