Edvard Weie made this small landscape painting with oil on canvas; it's currently hanging at the SMK in Copenhagen. What strikes me is how the image emerges through these short, deliberate strokes, almost like knitting a picture together. The muted greens and grays create a somber mood, but there’s a real energy in the way he’s applied the paint. Look at the lower third of the painting and how each stroke feels both purposeful and intuitive, building up texture and depth while still letting the surface breathe. It's a technique that reminds me of van Gogh, but with a more restrained palette. This isn't just a landscape, it's a meditation on mark-making itself. Weie invites us to consider the process of seeing and making as one, showing us that meaning can be found in the most humble of subjects, and in the simplest of gestures.
