Curatorial notes

This chandelier design by A. Colinet features a quiver of arrows, a motif laden with historical and symbolic weight. Arrows, traditionally associated with the gods of love and war, represent both desire and conflict. Consider the Eros of the Greeks, his arrows capable of inciting uncontrollable passion. We can look to Renaissance paintings where Cupid's arrows were a symbol for both the pleasures and pains of love. The image of Cupid with his arrows is a recurring theme through the ages. The quiver of arrows, then, becomes more than mere decoration; it's a visual metaphor for the complex, often contradictory, nature of human emotion. These symbols resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings, a testament to the non-linear progression of cultural memory.
