Peter Milton created this print, *Passage IV*, with etching, engraving, and drypoint on paper. Look at the scene which is split in two like a wonky stage set. It’s like he’s built a memory palace with all these different perspectives. I can imagine Milton, hunched over a plate, coaxing out these delicate lines, layering scenes like memories overlapping. The details are so precise, almost dreamlike. What kind of world is he building here? Is it a real place or a landscape of the mind? I love how he combines different techniques. Etching, engraving, drypoint—they all bring a different kind of line, a different kind of touch. You know, it makes me think of Piranesi, or maybe M.C. Escher. Artists who build worlds out of line and perspective. Milton is in conversation with them, riffing on their themes. He embraces uncertainty, inviting us to wander through his labyrinthine world, discovering new meanings with each viewing.
