G. Dangereux made this black and white photograph of a devastated building. It's easy to imagine them on location with their camera, adjusting the focus, taking multiple shots, trying to capture the devastation. I am always interested in ruins. There's something deeply human about seeing a building fall into disrepair. You can't help but sympathize with the artist, thinking about their process, the choices they made, and the message they hoped to convey. The ladder leaning against the wall is such a poignant detail. It speaks to the human struggle to repair and rebuild. There is an awareness that our efforts may be futile, that the relentless forces of nature may eventually overwhelm us all. But, still, we try.
