Harry Grossen, born in 1855, made this drawing of 'Woman's Clogs', with what looks like watercolor. It's not about the grand gesture. This is about getting up close and personal with the everyday, the worn, and the used. The colors are quiet, earthy, a mix of browns and tans that feel honest. Look at the way he’s rendered the texture of the wood, those tiny, careful strokes building up the form. The lighter underbelly of the smaller shoe is particularly satisfying. It reminds me that art isn't always about some big statement, it's also about the simple act of looking, of paying attention to the world around you. This quiet focus reminds me of Giorgio Morandi. He also found endless inspiration in humble objects. Both artists remind us that art can be found in the most unexpected places.
