Dragan Ilić Di Vogo made ‘Instinkt’ using, it seems, anything he could get his hands on. The marks! They range from lyrical dribbles to purposeful daubs. This is art as a happening. Up close, the paint has a life of its own – thick in some places, revealing the canvas in others, like the history of the painting is right there on the surface. The eye is drawn to the floating sphere in the midground, that may or may not be a planet or a plum, reflecting the horse's head. It's a beautiful mess! The horse itself is an apparition emerging from the deep, dark background and pulled into the foreground by dynamic, expressive gestures. The way Di Vogo approaches the subject matter reminds me of Francis Picabia. Like Picabia, Di Vogo's work is about the joy of painting and the love of life, where the goal is not to make sense, but to embrace the glorious chaos of the world.
