Untitled (group portrait of bride with seven bridesmaids in fanned hats in front of columns) 1930 - 1940
Dimensions image: 10.16 x 12.7 cm (4 x 5 in.)
Editor: This is an untitled photograph by Martin Schweig, a group portrait of a bride and her bridesmaids. It's an interesting image. What do you see in it? Curator: I see a visual echo of classicism, those columns… and then the hats! They almost form halos around the women. It's dreamlike, but also a bit melancholic, don't you think? Like a memory fading. What does it evoke for you? Editor: I can see what you mean. It feels like a memory. The fading is also because it is a negative. Curator: Exactly! It reminds us that memories aren't always perfectly preserved. It's beautiful, and a little haunting, all at once.
