Reinier Nooms, better known as "Zeeman", was a Dutch artist famous for his maritime etchings, like "Harbor Scene with Mountainous Background" (c. 1656). This etching depicts a harbor scene with several sailing ships, a mountainous background and a flock of birds in flight, all rendered with exquisite detail. This work is characteristic of Zeeman's style, known for its realistic portrayal of ships and seascapes, which are often depicted with an emphasis on atmosphere and light.
