Lourdes Castro made this 'Sombra Projectada de Christa Maar' with acrylic and collage, and well, it's pink! I love how Castro uses a limited palette to create a sense of depth and mystery. It’s so simple but so effective. It’s about paring things back, really, to get to the heart of something. Look at the surface: it’s smooth but also has little imperfections from the collage elements, like dust or bumps, things that came to be there during the making. Castro traces the outline of the figure with a thin white line, almost like a delicate thread holding the image together. There's this one little red mark on the figure, it’s like a tiny burst of energy, adding a little surprise. Castro's work reminds me a bit of Alex Katz, another artist who uses flat planes of color to create portraits. But Castro is more experimental. Art is like a big conversation, you know? Everyone riffing off each other, adding their own little twist. There is something kind of funny about that.
