Paperweight c. 19th century

This 19th-century paperweight, crafted by the Clichy Glass Works, is a fine example of millefiori glass. The term "millefiori," meaning "thousand flowers," describes the technique of creating patterns by fusing together rods of colored glass. In this paperweight, green and pink flowers, along with small white and purple floral motifs, are arranged in a circular design, showcasing the intricate and beautiful process of millefiori glassmaking. The piece is currently held in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
