L’abus de plaisir 2013

Miss.Tic made this artwork, "L’abus de plaisir," using stencils and spray paint. I really get the feeling of quickness and immediacy from this piece, don’t you? When you’re spraying a stencil, there’s no going back, it's like you're setting down a thought almost as fast as you're having it. I can imagine her out there in the city, thinking about pleasure, and the body, and what is acceptable for women... You can see how she uses the medium to make this simple, powerful statement about taking pleasure, like "pleasure is good for your health." The marks have this raw, direct quality to them, and remind me of other graffiti artists like Basquiat. There's a great history of artists working like this, almost like a quick philosophical intervention in public space. Like a reminder about what matters.
