Alberto Magnelli made this painting called "Animated Tension" in 1953. What strikes me is how he uses simple shapes and colours to create a feeling of movement. It's as if these geometric forms are dancing or vibrating on the canvas. The way Magnelli applied the paint is really interesting. It looks smooth, almost machine-like in its precision. There aren't any visible brushstrokes, which gives the painting a clean, industrial feel. But look closer, and you can see subtle variations in the surface, like the ever so slight imperfections. The palette is restrained – browns, whites, and greys – but the contrast is sharp and decisive. Notice the angular shapes and how they interlock, creating a sense of depth and tension. The white triangle at the bottom, almost a perfect shape, appears to be held in place by other shapes. Magnelli was clearly influenced by other constructivist artists like Sophie Taeuber-Arp, but he brings his own unique sensibility to the genre. His paintings aren't just about pure form, they are alive with energy and emotion.
