Robert Adams made this photograph, Longmont, Colorado, and like his other work, it's printed in black and white, giving it a timeless feel. Adams has such a great way of finding beauty in the everyday. Look at the sky, how the clouds are so light they almost blend into the sun. This photograph seems to use texture to describe the world, rather than colour. The leaves in the upper section of the image feel thick, almost furry. There's a power line cutting through the sky, but that, to me, only adds to the feeling that this is a snapshot of real life, not some idealized landscape. Adams reminds me a little of the New Topographics photographers like Bernd and Hilla Becher, with their focus on the mundane. Yet, unlike the Bechers, I find Adams' work to be very personal. It's a look at the world around him, filtered through his own unique perspective. It feels like there's something ambiguous about the image, something unresolved.
