Robert Burian made this photo called 'model window, open' and it's like peeking into a moment of stillness through the lens. The black and white palette strips away the noise, focusing instead on the dance between light and form. There's something about the crispness of the edges, the starkness of the light that feels almost architectural. Yet, look closer, and you start to see a vulnerability. Notice the subtle scratches on the glass, each one a tiny narrative of wear and time, adding a ghostly texture to the image. They're like whispers of past encounters, grounding the image with layers of human experience. It's in these details that the photograph transcends mere representation, and becomes something more akin to a psychological portrait. It makes me think of Bernd and Hilla Becher, but with a poetic twist. Like them, Burian catalogues the world, but also infuses it with an uncanny sense of presence. Art is always in dialogue and conversation, right?
