Antonio Jacobsen captured this yacht race with paint on canvas, immortalizing the event. Atop the lead yacht flies a red pennant. Throughout history, red has been used as a symbol of passion, danger, and above all, power. This potent color reappears in many contexts, from the robes of emperors to the vestments of cardinals. It represents vitality, standing in stark contrast to the pale hues of the sky and the tumultuous green of the sea. Notice how the American flag adorns one of the masts. Flags have always been powerful emblems, used to rally armies, stake claims on newfound land, and signal allegiances. The sight of the flag and that bold flash of crimson may well stir collective memories of naval power and maritime exploration, resonating deeply within the subconscious. We find that these symbols do not just exist in isolation. They constantly resurface and evolve, carrying the weight of history and emotion across time.
