James Jean made "Flight" sometime around now, using paint and his brain probably. It feels like he’s letting the paint do its thing, but with a plan, you know? Look at the way those gnomes are all tangled up together. The colours are so smooth, like dreamy candy. I love how the pink in the sky washes down, almost staining the land below. It’s all kind of drippy and splattered, but then those gnome hats are so perfectly pointy. Check out the gnome on the right, all nestled in, eyes closed – he's my favourite. The colours and the smooth lines remind me a bit of Yoshitomo Nara, but with a weirder, more psychedelic vibe. You get the feeling that Jean is totally in control, but also just letting things happen, trusting the process to take him somewhere new. That's how you fly, I guess.
