This silver medal, commemorating Allied victories, was crafted by Philipp Heinrich Müller. The reverse side presents us with two figures, allegories of military strength, each holding shields adorned with heraldic emblems under an image of a city. Note the gesture of protection and dominance. The symbolism of shields dates back to antiquity and speaks to humankind's primal need for safety. Shields appear in the dreams of the neurotic and on ancient battlefields, representing defense and honor. Consider the evolution of this symbol. From simple wooden defenses to elaborate displays of power, the shield transforms. Its circular shape and central design tap into our collective unconscious, evoking a sense of wholeness and protection. This continuity reveals how symbols persist, adapting across time and culture, always resonating with our deepest fears and aspirations.
