Oleg Holosiy made this painting, Twilight, with oils and a whole lotta feeling. You can tell by the way the colors just sort of, *exist* together. Browns, yellows, and greens all mushed into one another. There's so much paint, it's practically a relief. The texture isn't shy; it's yelling at you. Look at how the paint is applied in thick strokes. I wonder what kind of brush Holosiy was using? Or maybe it was a palette knife, or maybe they just squeezed the paint straight from the tube? I bet the movement of the painter's hand as they made the marks was like a dance. You know, I can see a bit of Auerbach in this piece, that same willingness to let the paint have its way and to take on its own form. Ultimately, though, it’s a reminder that art is always a conversation. There's no real right or wrong. It’s all about what you see, what you feel.
