Francis Borelli made this ‘Dressing Table’ with watercolour. I love the evenness of tone and the precision of the lines. It makes me think about the artmaking process as one of patient looking. The color is warm, like polished wood, and the highlights are soft. The grain of the wood is gently suggested, but it feels smooth, like a freshly varnished surface. Look at the curves of the legs. The way they bend makes me think of dancing. There's something almost anthropomorphic about it. Maybe it’s just me, but I see a dialogue with artists like Agnes Martin, who also found so much expression in the everyday. Art is like that; it doesn't offer answers, just different ways to see the world.
