This evening jacket, made of bottle green velvet chiffon, shimmers with secrets. It's anonymous, which I find endlessly compelling. The texture is so inviting, you can almost feel the soft pile against your skin. Bottle green is a funny name for a colour. Depending on the light, it can appear almost black, or reveal hidden depths of emerald and jade. I am drawn to the way the pleats catch the light, creating a sense of movement and fluidity. This reminds me of Gerhard Richter’s blurred paintings, where the image seems to be constantly shifting and reforming before your eyes. There’s a beautiful tension between the opulence of the velvet and the simplicity of the design. It feels like a whisper of luxury, a subtle statement of elegance and sophistication, rather than an ostentatious display. It’s like a secret language, understood only by those in the know. And like all good art, it leaves you wanting to know more.
