Here's a picture by Henry Chalfant of a subway car absolutely covered in graffiti. I love how the energy practically jumps off the surface, or rather, the side of the train car! Look at the way the artist has layered the colors. The pink and grey tones bleed into each other. The line between each letter is not perfectly defined. It's like the whole thing is vibrating with movement. You can almost feel the artist's hand—or, more likely, their whole body—as they worked, quickly and decisively, to create this dynamic image. This isn’t just about writing words. It’s like an action painting, where the act of creation is just as important as the final result. I'm reminded of Rammellzee, who also combined language and image in such a raw, powerful way. Like him, Chalfant captures the urgency and excitement of the New York art scene. It’s a great example of how art can be both beautiful and challenging, and how it can reflect the world around us in unexpected ways.
