This cityscape with a river, found in an old book, it's got this ghostly, grayscale thing going on that really messes with your sense of time. It’s all about the light and how it washes over the buildings, almost like a memory fading. The texture here is smooth, reflecting the water, which gives a mirror image of the buildings above. There is detail in the buildings, and the bridge is so precise! It makes me think about how photography, like painting, can be about capturing a fleeting moment, an impression. The way the photographer has handled the light, playing with shadow and reflection, reminds me of how artists like Gerhard Richter use photography as a starting point for their paintings, blurring the line between representation and abstraction. It’s about the conversation between mediums, how one informs the other, and how we keep revisiting the same questions about seeing and experiencing the world.
