Here we have Sally Gabori’s, Land of All, and looking at it, it’s so immediate! The way she puts color next to color, not worrying about blending too much – it’s like she’s setting off fireworks. The painting has this bold, raw energy. I mean, check out how she layers those reds and oranges, thick and juicy, almost like she’s sculpting with the paint. It's not blended! Each color shouts to its neighbour. And then, there are these little white marks on top, like she’s adding a bit of light, or maybe even some playful defiance. For me, Gabori’s work speaks to how art can be a conversation, an exchange of energy and ideas. Looking at Land of All, I think of Joan Mitchell. There’s something similar in the way they both use color to create these almost overwhelming, emotional landscapes. Art is an invitation, never just a statement.
