This is a Conoid chair by George Nakashima, there's no date for the piece, and it's here at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Nakashima's approach really resonates with me because he has this incredible feel for the material. The wood feels like it’s talking, right? And I think what's so special about this Conoid chair is how the vertical slats in the backrest have this amazing rhythm and flow. It's like a musical score translated into wood. And the seat, you know, it's not just flat, it has this gentle curve that makes you want to sit and sink right in. The way the wood is finished brings out the natural grain and color. It’s not about perfection, but about letting the material shine. It reminds me of some of the Bauhaus furniture, but with a warmer, more human touch. The construction is so smart; you can see how each piece fits together. It's solid and durable but has this lightness. These chairs remind us that art is a conversation across time and materials.
