Ciurlionis made "Deluge (III)" with paint to create a world that feels both familiar and otherworldly. The painting has this great sense of process, like he’s building up layers of color and form to create this really immersive atmosphere. Looking at the surface, you can almost feel the texture of the paint, like a kind of storm cloud hovering over a forest. The colors are muted, but there's this intensity in the way they blend and bleed into each other. It’s like you can see the movement of the water, the wind, the whole drama of the deluge unfolding before your eyes. I love how he uses these vertical strokes to suggest the rain, but also create this sense of depth and space. It’s like the trees are disappearing into the mist. Ciurlionis reminds me a little of Hilma af Klint, in the way he uses abstraction to explore these big, cosmic themes. It's this feeling of art as a conversation, constantly evolving and expanding, with room for everyone to bring their own perspective.
