Pavlo Makov made L.P. Garden, and it looks like the garden was made by applying ink on paper with some earthy-red washes. It's a landscape that's got a touch of geometric precision— I can imagine him moving in, backing out, adding and taking away. The swirling vortex of trees is mesmerizing; it’s as if he's trying to capture not just the look, but the feeling, the very idea of a garden. I wonder what he was thinking while creating it? There's a dance between control and letting go, a conversation between what's planned and what just happens. That big swirl might be his nod to other artists, like van Gogh’s starry nights. It reminds me that art doesn’t exist in a vacuum. We are all responding to something. We take what we see and feel, and then we make it new.
