This 1780 guild token, made of brass, depicts a figure in a hat with a small inscription on the obverse. The reverse features a larger inscription in a decorative script, "Arend Duegt 1780". This token was created for the "Korendragersgilde van Enkhuizen", a guild of grain carriers in the Dutch city of Enkhuizen. Guild tokens were used to identify members of a particular trade or profession and were often exchanged between guild members, serving as a form of early currency or social currency. The intricate engravings on this small token showcase the craftsmanship and traditions associated with guild life in 18th century Netherlands.
