Hryhorii Havrylenko made "Sitting Woman" with what looks like one continuous ink line. It's like he's thinking on the page, figuring her out as he goes, a beautiful, straightforward process! I love how the bare minimum of marks gives us everything we need. The texture of the paper is part of the image itself, lending a sense of authenticity to the piece. The curve of her hair, the angle of her gaze – there’s a quiet story being told, but it's up to us to fill in the blanks. The more I look, the more I feel like I could’ve made it myself, you know? That's how simple and honest it is. It reminds me of Matisse's line drawings. Not that they look alike, but there's something about that shared confidence. Art isn't about showing off. It's about the conversation between the artist and the world, and in that conversation, anything is possible.
