Pat Lipsky made *Dark Love* with paint, and what I find fascinating is the way the colour, or lack of it, becomes a process. The surface is built up from what looks like lots of tiny squares. Each one is a slightly different shade of black, or maybe very dark blue, creating a subtle, shifting grid. Look closely, and you can see the texture of the paint, maybe even the marks of the brush. It’s not about hiding the process, but about making it visible, almost like a map of the artist’s movements. There's something about the physicality of the medium that really draws me in. It reminds me a bit of Ad Reinhardt, but maybe with a bit more… warmth? These kinds of painting embrace ambiguity and multiple interpretations over fixed meanings, inviting us to slow down, to really look, and to find our own way in.
