This is a letter written in 1994 by J. van der Heide to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The dense script sprawls across the page like a field of wheat swaying in the breeze. I imagine the artist hunched over their desk, the pen scratching and dancing as they think. Their hand moves across the page, carefully choosing each word with its own particular weight and resonance. You can feel that the artist knew exactly what they wanted to say. It’s fascinating how writing becomes a means to work through ideas and emotions. As an artist, you're in a constant dialogue with the world around you, as well as with the art of the past. The whole letter feels like a conversation starter, an opening into a network of ideas. The gesture of writing itself is a way of solidifying thoughts and reaching out to others.
