Robert Frank made this contact sheet, Valencia, Spain 20 sometime during his life using photography. I look at this and I think about film, and the way it captures light and shadow. The high contrast between the light and dark areas creates a sense of depth and texture that almost feels sculptural, as if you could reach out and touch the surfaces depicted. The composition is fragmented, showing different moments and perspectives. What was Frank thinking as he took these shots?
