Reijer Stolk made this drawing of two figures with pencil on paper. It's a loose sketch, more about feeling than seeing, a distillation of form. I love the simple lines, almost childlike in their directness. There’s no shading or detail, just the essence of a shape. The figures are intertwined, or maybe just near each other, it's hard to tell. The lines loop and swirl, creating a sense of movement. See how the lines never quite connect, leaving gaps and open spaces? This gives the drawing a lightness, a feeling of being unfinished, like a thought in progress. It reminds me of Cy Twombly’s scribbles, but with a more figurative element. Both artists share a love of the gestural, the raw energy of the hand. It's a reminder that art doesn't always have to be perfect or precise. Sometimes, the most powerful images are the ones that capture a fleeting moment, a whisper of an idea.
