'Paard in een weiland' by L. Lorjé jr. is a small print of a horse in a field. It's hard to ignore the process of the artist, in how they made this choice to document a horse. It feels deeply personal. The texture in the piece is really interesting, the subtle shifts in tone feel quite physical, as if you could reach out and touch them. There is a sense of realism but it also feels like a memory, like the artist is painting the subject from recollection, rather than observation. Look at the way the sky seems to merge with the land, creating a hazy atmosphere. And notice how the reflections in the water mirror the trees so perfectly, creating a sense of depth and space. This feels deeply evocative. It reminds me of some of the early work of Gerhard Richter, in his approach to process and how he plays with the idea of memory and perspective. Ultimately, art is an ongoing conversation, and this print is a quiet but powerful voice in that conversation.
