This print, "Verheugt u vrij, lieve kleinen," was made by Gordinne using etching. It's a lovely example of a story told in images, like a comic strip before comics were really a thing. The lines are so delicate and precise, almost like handwriting, and the colors are soft and muted, giving it a nostalgic feel. I like how the artist captured the details of everyday life in the little squares. Look at the way the artist renders light and shadow, especially in the indoor scenes. It’s like they’re trying to capture a moment in time, a fleeting feeling of warmth and anticipation. Each square feels like a little world. It reminds me a little of Redon, in its dreamy, symbolic quality, it leaves so much room for our imaginations to wander.
