Editor: Here we have Joseph Lorusso's painting "Table for One," done in oil with a wonderfully thick impasto technique. The scene shows a lone figure seated in a restaurant, writing something. There's something melancholic about this; it makes you wonder about the story behind the image. What stands out to you when you look at this painting? Curator: You know, that melancholy feel is exactly what grabs me, too. There’s a hum of quiet desperation, wouldn’t you agree? Look how the light catches the tablecloth, the shadows swallowing everything else around him... It’s as if he's sealed in his own little bubble, writing perhaps his own play. Maybe he’s scripting his own escape, don’t you think? Does he seem comfortable or uneasy to you? Editor: Uneasy, definitely. The way he’s hunched over, almost hiding... it's like he doesn't want to be noticed. I guess that explains why he’s having "Table for One" there. So you think his writings are a way of coping? Curator: Possibly. Art often allows us to re-imagine our circumstances, right? Consider the visual storytelling Lorusso crafts – the empty chair across from him...is it longing or relief, wouldn’t you agree? Maybe the artist paints life with what's both present and desperately missed. This piece is both familiar and intriguing, a scene open to our interpretations. Editor: I love that - present but desperately missed. The composition highlights solitude while inviting speculation. Thanks, it really is a different piece when you share this point of view. Curator: Anytime! Now, go and create something of your own. Be courageous and be inspired!
