Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this drawing of an old woman, we don't know exactly when, using what looks like charcoal and pastel on paper. There's something raw and immediate in the way he's layered those strokes, building up the form and the mood. I love how the texture of the paper still shows through. Take a look at her hands, how they're clasped together, almost disappearing into the folds of her skirt. Notice the way the colours blend, that muted palette of browns, greens, and purples. It’s like he’s not just drawing a person, but also capturing a feeling. It reminds me a bit of Käthe Kollwitz, you know, that same kind of empathy and attention to the human condition. Art is a dialogue across time, isn't it?
