Editor: This is a Tetradrachm of Alexandria under Probus, quite worn, but I find it fascinating that something so small has survived so long. What can we tell about Probus based on this piece? Curator: Well, imagine holding that history in your hand! The verdigris whispers tales of empires. Look closely; can you see how the emperor’s image seems both idealized and…vulnerable? Editor: Vulnerable? I see the wear, but idealized, yes. Curator: Perhaps it's just me projecting. But consider: even a Roman emperor, frozen in metal, is eventually softened by time.
