Carl Buergerniss made this beautiful, careful watercolour of a coffee mill sometime during his life, which stretched from 1877 to 1956. What do you reckon it was like to paint something like this? The beans, the wood, the ornate metalwork. You'd have to slow down and really look, right? I can imagine him squinting, trying to get the light just so. The way he's handled the woodgrain, it almost feels like you could reach out and touch it. You know, painting is often about trying to capture something real, but it's also about transforming it, making it your own. I see the legacy of artists like Morandi here, taking humble, everyday objects and turning them into something monumental. It reminds me that we are all influenced by each other, borrowing ideas, techniques, and approaches. It’s a wonderful thing, this conversation across time, inspiring each other to see the world in new and exciting ways.
