Paperweight c. 1845 - 1860

This "Paperweight," created by the Baccarat Glassworks circa 1845-1860, is a stunning example of the intricate glasswork for which the French company is renowned. The paperweight is a sphere of clear glass with a central, circular millefiori design. This is surrounded by a ring of blue glass, creating a striking contrast. The paperweight is an example of the "cage" style of paperweights, which became popular in the 19th century. Today, this intricate glasswork is housed at the Art Institute of Chicago.
