This untitled work by Bruno Cassinari presents us with an array of figures in an ambiguous setting. It draws on the modern preoccupation with classical form, using color to create depth. Painted in post-war Italy, this painting can be understood as a commentary on art's role in society. The rigid, statue-like figures recall the classical tradition, but their fractured forms and bold colors suggest a break from the past.
