Dwaas gezelschap in een vertrek 1692 - 1737

This etching by Pieter van den Berge, titled “Dwaas gezelschap in een vertrek,” depicts a scene of folly and revelry. The composition centers on a group of figures, including a man in a feathered hat who appears to be vomiting. Others in the scene, including a woman cradling a baby, watch on with expressions ranging from amusement to concern. The small dog in the foreground adds to the sense of chaotic energy and the artist's masterful use of light and shadow creates a dramatic and immersive scene. This work reflects the Dutch Golden Age fascination with everyday life and its idiosyncrasies. It is currently located in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
