Editor: This is an Untitled work, an abstract print created by Henk Peeters. There's something really intriguing about this pattern of what looks like… almost smudged raindrops in ink. I wonder, what draws your eye when you look at this piece? Curator: It's a bit like looking into a rain-streaked window, isn't it? Only here, the artist has orchestrated the chaos. These aren’t just random splatters; there's a grid, a subtle order fighting against the apparent randomness. To me, it evokes a sense of quiet meditation. Are these marks aggressive gestures or controlled actions, would you say? Editor: I can see both! Some feel quite deliberate and dark, while others seem fainter, accidental almost. What does that tension tell you? Curator: That’s where the magic lies. The tension between control and chance reminds me of zen calligraphy, the "enso" circle for example – perfect imperfection. Each blot an attempt at perfection that acknowledges the impossibility of it. Don’t you find the monochrome adds to the impact? Stripping away colour forces us to focus on form and texture. Editor: Definitely, and focusing on individual textures opens up so many thoughts. It makes me think about impermanence too – like each of these blobs is slowly fading away. Curator: Precisely! A memento mori in minimalist form. Each seemingly insignificant mark contributing to a greater, transient whole. Beautiful, really. I’ll carry that image with me now. Editor: This piece is certainly much more contemplative and carefully structured than it seems upon first glance. It feels very intentional now.
