This invitation and program for a performance by Het Haagse Cabaret van het COC was made in Rotterdam. It’s all text, typewritten, probably offset printed. I can imagine the artist thinking about how to make something enticing with just words. I wonder what choices they made about the font, the layout, the little slogans like "Lieve neef, lieve nicht" (Dear nephew, dear niece), or the title "Van Alles Wat" (A Bit of Everything). It’s all about direct communication, right? But even in something as seemingly straightforward as an invitation, there's room for creativity. I mean, it's a political statement, an invitation to a performance, and a piece of graphic design all rolled into one. Like all art, the invitation is speaking to the viewer through careful consideration of form and content. It embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations and meaning over fixed or definitive readings.
