Hiroyuki Tajima made Evidence A using a printmaking process, and it's the kind of piece that makes you stop and think about how we see and experience the world. The texture is intriguing, isn't it? Up close, you can see how Tajima layered the inks, creating this surface that feels both ancient and immediate. There’s a kind of ghostly figure in the middle of the ochre rectangle that reminds me of something seen in a dream. The color palette is really interesting, too, this mix of earthy ochre, red and brown, with those hints of darker tones that give it such depth. Tajima's work reminds me a little of Antoni Tàpies, in that they both use abstraction to explore something deeply human. Ultimately, it’s the ambiguity that really gets me. It's like Tajima is inviting us to bring our own stories and interpretations to the work.
