This print, *House and Boat*, was made by Franz Radziwill, and it’s all about the power of a simple line. The cross hatching on the roof and the layering of lines to build up the banks on which the house sits; the lines make a whole world here. Looking closely, you can see the physical marks of the process. The lines are etched with purpose, creating texture and depth. It’s not just a picture of a house and boat, it’s also a record of the artist’s hand and thought process. The boat is connected to the house by a series of simple lines; you could almost believe it was tethered. Radziwill's approach reminds me of Giorgio Morandi, who also used simple, repetitive marks to create a sense of stillness and contemplation. Both artists invite us to slow down and look closely, appreciating the beauty in the everyday. Art is, after all, a way of seeing and experiencing the world differently, embracing ambiguity and celebrating the endless possibilities of interpretation.
