Curator: Here we have an untitled landscape sketch on paper, attributed to Lady Susan Elizabeth Percy, who lived from 1782 to 1847. Editor: It feels so fragile, like a whisper of a memory. The faint lines barely cling to the page. Curator: The composition is simple but effective, with a low horizon line and delicate rendering of trees and what appears to be a distant building. Editor: It’s interesting how the damage to the paper almost adds to its story. It’s aged, and imperfect, like…well, like the landscapes we carry within ourselves. Curator: Indeed, its intimate scale, just 212 by 269 mm, invites close observation and reflection on the artist’s process. Editor: It certainly makes you wonder about what was going through her mind when she was sketching it, and how her background influenced the perspective.
